June 2008 witnessed that US-China Foundation set up its branch in Hainan and presented successfully the travel resort --- beautiful Hainan Island---to the world.
1. USCF Hainan Branch was officially registered and set up in Haikou City ,Hainan Province on June 1, 2008. Undertaking USCF’S mission of “Making Friends Globally, Basing in China and America and Contributing to the World” and on the principle of developing together, this branch’s goal to promote the development of Hainan Island as an international island, enhance the cultural exchange between islands in China and America, develop cultural industry in Hainan, and extend the size of travel industry in Hainan, developing this branch office itself and positioning Hainan globally. 2. A photo exhibition entitled “Light and Shadow in the Eyes of A Diplomat” was on display in June in Haikao
A photo exhibition entitled “Light and Shadow in the Eyes of A Diplomat” co-organized by USCF and Propaganda Department of Hainan Committee of CPC was held at “ Taida Beautiful Road ” gallery in Haikou in middle June. All photo works of this exhibition come from the best ones of photographs taken over the world by Mr. Hua Jinzhou, senior advisor of USCF, well-known Chinese diplomat and senior member of Chinese Photographers Association. The date for this exhibition is from June 13 to June 19. Also, International Polo Association, Hong Kong Photographers Association, Italian Photographers Association and Cultural Department of Hunan Province invited Mr. Hua to hole his personal exhibition there respectively.
3. This “Light and Shadow in the Eyes of A Diplomat” photo exhibition of Hua Jinzhou, senior advisor of USCF, well-known Chinese diplomat and former consul general of Chinese Consulate in Houston will be officially open in Hainan.
A news conference for consul general Hua Jinzhou was officially held in Haikou in the afternoon of June 12. The representatives from one of co-organizers with USCF of this exhibition, paganda Department of Hainan Committee of CPC, and USCF’s strategic partner, foreign affairs office of Hainan provincial government attended this conference. Over ten media representative were also present at this conference.
Larry Lee, president of USCF, hosted this conference. President Lee introduced the media in detail Mr. Hua’s diplomatic career and artistic experiences, as well as the reason of choosing Hainan as the first leg of this global exhibition tour. President Lee told the media that the timing of Mr. Hua’s photo exhibition in Haikou as the first leg of its global tour was very appropriate. Firstly, Hainan wants to establish an international island, raise its global publicity further, and over 90% of Mr. Hua’s photo works showing the landscape and people customs over the world as well as in accordance with Hainan ’s development goal . Secondly, the “ Taida Beautiful Road ” gallery for holding this exhibition is the most up-scale, international one in Hainan.Its owner, who provides free place for this exhibition, offers essential conditions for holding this exhibition. Thirdly, Propaganda Department of Hainan Province Committee of CPC gave full support to this exhibition: Zhou Wenzhang, standing member of Hainan provincial committee of CPC and director of Propaganda Department of Hainan provincial committee of CPC approved this exhibition, Zhang Songlin, managing vice director of Propaganda Department of Hainan provincial committee of CPC, and Chang Pushang, vice director of Propaganda Department of Hainan provincial committee of CPC supervised this exhibition, director Liu and director Lin attended this conference, officials from foreign affairs office of Liaoning provincial government enthusiastically coordinated this exhibition. All this support makes Hainan an ideal place for holding this exhibition.
Liu Yi, Director of Propaganda Department of Hainan provincial committee of CPC, representing organizers, delivered a speech And gave a high praise of this exhibition. Chen Jianjiao, representative of Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan provincial government, introduced the relationship between Mr. Hua and Hainan province and was very grateful for Mr. Hua’s support to the work of Hainan ’s Foreign Affairs Office.Shen Guilin, president of “ Taida Beautiful Road ” gallery, sponsor of this exhibition made a warm speech at this conference. Mr. Shen, also came from the same province as Mr. Hua, wished this exhibition a success and thanked USCF for offering Hainan’s people a high quality present after setting up its branch office in Hainan. In the end, Mr. Hua made a speech. He introduced the attending guests his double life experiences as a diplomat and a photographer and showed them his photo work “China, My Motherland forever” and his other photo works taken in Canada, UK, Thailand, India, US and other countries. His photo works received high praise from the attending guests.
The news conference concluded successfully. All attending guests wished Mr. Hua’s photo exhibition from June 14 to June 19 a great success.
Mr. Hua flew to Hainan from Beijing yesterday. President Lee and others met Mr. hua at the airport.Dr. Gene Grace, senior advisor of USCF arrived in Hainan at noon and attend related activities associated with this exhibition. Also, former foreign minister Li Zhaoxing made three inscriptions for Mr. Hua’s photo exhibition “Wish Mr. Hua’s photo exhibition a great success and make progress everyday for people”“ Wish my schoolmate Hua Jinzhou’s photo exhibition a great success and happy Dragon Boat Rowing Festival by Li Zhaoxing, Beijing June 7, 2008”. Yesterday, Hainan Daily and Southern Metropolitan Newspaper carried large colored pictures about this exhibition.
4. On June 19, the photo exhibition of Mr. Hua Jinzhou, well-known Chinese diplomat, distinguished member of Chinese Photographers Association, lowered its curtain at Taida Beauty Gallery in Haikou City.
There were hundreds of visitors attended this 6-day exhibition, including Photography fans from other provinces and cities. They gave the works of Mr. Hua high praise. Many people using the word “fantastic” expressed their feeling toward this exhibition.
During Mr. Hua’s stay in Hainan, he met with many guests including government officials, scholars, professors and artists. Mr. Hua’s personality as a diplomat impressed many people very much.
On June 16, being accompanied by Larry Lee, president of USCF, Mr. Hua began his 2-day visit in Wangning, Xinglong, Sanya, Lingshui and Boao. During his visit, he took many pictures, accumulated a lot of experience s and understood further about Hainan people and their customs.
This exhibition was co-organized by USCF and Propaganda Department of CPC in Hainan and gave full support from Hainan Foreign Affairs Office and Hainan and Jiangsu Chamber of Commerce. The main media in Hainan gave their detailed reports covering this exhibition injecting new blood into cultural market in Hainan and lain down a sound basis for Mr. Hua’s global photo exhibition tour at next stage.Mr. Hua said he loved Hainan more after this exhibition and viewed Hainan as his second hometown. On June 20, USCF held an important business meeting in Hainan attended by Mr. Hua, senior advisor of USCF, and Larry Lee, president of USCF.
On June 19, the photo exhibition of Mr. Hua Jinzhou, well-known Chinese diplomat, distinguished member of Chinese Photographers Association lowered its curtain.This exhibition was a hit in local cultural community in Hainan. The main media covered this exhibition. Mr. Hua was invited to attend many social events attracting much attention from cultural market in Hainan. The media using the word “fantastic” expressing the feedback of the audience; cultural authority remarked this exhibition was the highest level personal photo exhibition in Hainan over the years.
5. Mr. Hua and Larry Lee as well as staff took part in this photo exhibition held a meeting summarizing the work of this exhibition.
Mr. Hua was very grateful to everyone taking part in this photo exhibition and said this exhibition was a good start for his global photo exhibition tour in the future. Mr. Hua and Larry Lee suggested that we should raise further the publicity of this photo exhibition and USCF in society and market using effective measures, by means of internet and media coverage of this exhibition, on the principal of “media promoting first” wherever the exhibition is held, to establish brand image as soon as possible and win comprehensive recognition from the public. Mr. Hua said he would pay much attention to various activities organized by USCF and play an active role in them. At last, having a high opinion of the work done by USCF, Mr. Hua gave the authorization as an exclusive agent of his photo exhibition to Larry Lee, president of USCF. Larry thanked Mr. Hua for his high praise and trust in USCF and would make great efforts to explore culture market, promote cultural exchange between China and America, introduce more Chinese excellent artistic works and artists to the global cultural market and win global recognition.

6. Artistic supervisor of USCF Julia Zhu won an award for excellent singer
The award ceremony for “The Eighth National Vocal Competition Final” was held at Friendship Grand Theater in Harbin. The highest award of this competition granted by Chinese cultural ministry is Wenhua Award.Wenhua Award is very authoritative in terms of its jury and strict judging rules and procedure.On July 1, 2008, at 19.30, Julia Zhu, artistic supervisor of USCF won an award for excellent singer after series of tough competitions of qualifying heat, preliminary, heat and final.
