News Letter of USCF for October, 2004

On September 30, 2004, Larry Lee, president of USCF, Mr. Jiao Yanqing, assistant and investment adviser of president, Dr. Liu Kang, professor of Duke University, together with the principal of Shenyang No. 11 High School discussed the possibilities of establishing a bilateral school jointly with US partners. Larry Lee, Mr. Jiao Yanqing and Dr. Liu Kang also visited the electronic reading room, the reading room both for teachers and students, the library, the school TV station, the Internet center, the computer room, the class rooms and the public affairs building of No.11 High School. Moreover, as to the forthcoming application work of the school construction, Larry Lee talked further and in detail with principal Li of No.11 High School. Finally, they decided to start the work definitely, setting up the detailed agenda, making sure the fulfillment of each step, prompting the advantages of resources of both sides at the same time. 

During the period of October 8 to October 15, 2004, Larry Lee, president of USCF was in America meeting with our US advisors and members of USCF. They probed into the overseas cooperations.

At the middle of October, with other guests and friends from USA, Larry Lee, president of USCF visited Hangzhou, Shanghai and Changxing County of Zhejiang Province. The visit was very productive with many potential cooperations such as training for local official, educational & cultural exchanges, and bilateral investment.

At the late October, Ms. Julia Zhu, well-known soprano, supervisor of Art and Culture Exchange of USCF participated in the vocal concert entitled with “Forever Love”, hold in the Great Hall of the People, for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of China Red Cross Association. “The Kind-hearted People” sung by her on the stage aroused thundering applauses and enthusiastic tears from audience. After the concert, she was interviewed from Ms. Peng Peiyun, the president of the China Red Cross Association, signing for her fans, and taking photos with many audiences.

On October 28, Larry Lee, president of USCF met with Nick Clements, investment consultant of USCF. They exchanged points of views on the Sino-US Educational Training Programme. Mr. Liu Haibo, vice general secretary of China Association for Promotion of Non-governmental Sci-Tech Enterprise also participated in the meeting. They reached their common understandings on the issues.

On November 1, Mr. Wang Ling, vice-mayor of Shenyang met with Larry Lee, at the VIP guest room of Shenyang city government, exchanging views related comprehensive Sino-US educational cooperation. Mr. Bai Changhong, the director general of Shenyang Educational Bureau and Mr. Zhan, the associate director general were at the meeting. Larry Lee introduced the condition of the establishing the International University and its particular steps at this phase in the educational field to Vice-mayor Wang. The Vice-mayor also showed her great interests in the promotion of the educational exchange project with Shenyang No.11 High School and the plan to set up a bilingual kindergarten, then she said happily, “Welcome to do something important for your hometown!” Mr. Zhang, Associate director general of Shenyang Education Bureau gave an introduction of similar educational exchanges cooperation projects between Shenyang and Chicago to president Larry Lee, showing his willingness to support our work especially in the extensive educational exchanges projects from the stage of kindergarten to that of senior middle school. After the 30-minute meeting, Vice-mayor Wang Ling gave a delicate gift to Larry Lee, and in return, Larry Lee gave her the gorgeous Australian crystal necklaces called“the Heart of Ocean”as a present, inviting her and other leaders of Educational Bureau to visit in U.S. in the near future.

On November 3, Mr. Larry Lee, president of USCF together with Dr. Gene Grace, Medical Consultant of USCF, American eye specialist, chairman of US Glaucoma Association drove to Kazuo County, the poorest county in Liaoning province, which is located in the northwest mountain area of Liaoning for the charity diagnosis to bring love to the weak and to help the poor, warmly welcomed by the local people. Dr. Gene Grace will donate his advanced optical equipments made in America to the First Hospital of Kazuo. Soon Larry Lee, on behalf of the United States and China Foundation, reached an accord with leaders of the First Hospital as to set up “Sino-US Friendship Eye Center”. It is well-founded for us to believe that once the center been set up, more and more people with eye disease will relieve from suffering and regain their bright world. 
The second version of our 12th anniversary book “Friendship lives like flowing water from lofty mountains” had been printed and delivered to government leaders at the rank of province and municipality, our advisors and members of USCF. At the same time, the 5th anniversary book of USCF Shenyang Office is going to be printed, including 10 pages of enterprise’s images for enterprises, corporations and institutions of the USCF members.
