Newsletter of US-China Foundation on The US-China Foundation and Modern Group, celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival with a music-wine party at China World Hotel on Sept. 10. The event, with the theme “Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival with Friends and Beautiful Music”, featured musical performances by the renowned Chinese-American violinist Chai Liang, Ms. Einat Srdrakant, American pianist, Piano Doctorate from Yale University, and the soprano Ms. Julia Zhu, Director of Art and Cultural Exchange of USCF.

Guests included the Chairman of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, Mr. Fu Gengchen and his wife; Rector of the Central Conservatory of Music, Mr. Jin Tielin and his wife; famous vocalist Wang Kun; renowned lyricist, Mr. Yan Su and his wife; Honorary Chairman and General Advisor of the US-China Foundation and the first Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Chai Zemin and his wife; Senior Advisor of USCF and former Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Qin Huasun, and his wife; Chairman of the Chinese U.N. Association and former UN Under Secretary General for General Assembly Affairs, Mr. Jin Yongjian, and his wife; Senior Advisor of USCF and former Director of the American and Atlantic Department of the Foreign Ministry of China and former Chinese Ambassador to Canada, Mr. Zhang Yijun, and his wife; Director of the Consular Affairs Department of the Foreign Ministry of China, Mr. Qiu Shaofang, and his wife; Deputy Chief of Mission of the American Embassy in China, Mr. and Mrs. Marine; Chief of the Visa office of the American Embassy to China, Mr. Thurmond Borden and his wife; Chief Officer of the China Banking Regulatory Commission, Mr. Liu Mingkang and his wife; Director General of the Financial Bureau of the National Development Bank and Commissioner of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, Mr. Zhu Weiyi; Assistant Chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission Mr. Wang Jianxi; Director of the Department of Philosophy of the Party School of the Central Committee of the C.P.C. Mr. Pang Yuanzheng; President of Beijing Renwen University, Prof. Zhou Hongxing; Assistant Dean of Economics and Management School of Tsinghua University, Mr. Liao Li; Superintendent of the Physical Graduate School of the Chinese Science and Construction Research Institute, Mr. Lin Jie; Chairman of the Board and President of Modern Group, Mr. Zhang Lei; Chairman of the Board of Yongji Group, Mr. Wei Feng; Proprieter of Beijing Youth Weekly, Mr. Niu Ming; Chairman of the Board of the Xinyong Zhonghe Accounting Office, Mr. Zhang Ke; Chairman of the Board of Wanhe Hengyun Group, Mr. Zhang Guoli; President of the Dajiang Investment Company, Mr. Li Feng. Also in attendance were a number of representatives from the diplomatic community and a host of our international friends.

The outstanding musical performances, which included both Chinese and Western selections, were warmly applauded by both Chinese and international guests. The music, with the beautiful Mid-autumn moonlight, created a beautiful atmosphere for the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration.

On the evening of Sept. 13, the US-China Foundation in collaboration with Beijing Rose Garden Company, Limited, held a Golden Music-Wine Party in the well-known Rose Garden of Beijing. The wine-party was held in honor of the renowned Chinese-American violinist Chai Liang, the American pianist Ms. Einat Srdrakant, and soprano Ms. Julia Zhu, who performed at the party. The performance, which took place in the front gate garden of the newly-completely “King of Mansions” (No. 258 luxury villa) with the performers bathed in bright moonlight, was intoxicating.

The well-known Chinese-American violinist Chai Liang has formally named the US-China Foundation as his exclusive agent in China. The US-China Foundation has already arranged two successful performances for Mr. Chai, with another scheduled for Sept. 21. Meanwhile, two commercial enterprises have already expressed interest in engaging Mr. Chai Liang as their spokesman.

As the response to the invitation of Dalian "Overseas Chinese Student Creativity Week" Organizing Committee, the Executive President of US-China Foundation, Mr. Larry Lee flew to Dalian on Sept. 24. He took take part in the three-day Dalian "Overseas Chinese Student Creativity Week", and discussions about the Dalian International University project. The Dalian municipal government, as well as personnel of all circles, showed their earnest interest to this event.

On Sept. 27, Mr. Larry Lee held talks with officials of Dalian municipal government. They discussed in detail US-China Foundation’s long-range goals and objectives in Dalian, in promoting active exchange between America and China.

On Sept. 29, US-China Foundation sent representatives to pay special visit to every senior advisor of the Foundation in Beijing, and wish them a joyous festival for National Day. Leaders and staff members of US-China Foundation wish Foundation members and the advisors, as well as the leaders, a joyous time during the National Day holiday.
