In this sweltering summer, work of USCF on May and June is on-going like a raging fire. And it will continue to go full blast， despite the weather. With the changes in the world pattern, entrepreneurs and the educators in China, as well as the governmental officials at every level, need to keep in step with the international development. They need to broaden the international view, looking for the opportunity for innovation and development from different points of view. The International Communion Department of USCF is now operating on the project “Silicon Valley Seminar California, America” which goes with this historical stream. “Silicon Valley Seminar California, America” jointly sponsored by Monterey Institution of International Studies and US-China Foundation, will be ceremoniously held in California, America on 7th July 2003. This seminar will invite the experts from the U.S, Europe and Asia to further analyze and discuss the newest international tendencies from every aspect including international politics, economy, education and technology, etc. Please contact us as soon as possible, if you are interested.
The negotiation with the cooperation of some Chinese digital medical companies and American companies, operated by the Investment and Service department, has come into the fruition.
At present, another project of the Investment and Service department is to cooperate with an American scientist who is a member of the US-China Foundation and has 10-years of experience in electromagnetic imaging, to popularize the will-be published carry-home microwave-testing instrument. By using microwave-imaging techniques, it analyzes the inner structure of the compound material. The purpose of this project is to develop a method of testing the compound material without damage. And this technology applies to check and measure the abnormalities of the multi-materials, such as lumber, concrete, plastic, biologic fiber and synthetics. These abnormalities include cancer cells, lacuna, and split. We believe that this carry-home testing equipment will improve human health, science and technology. The Investment and Service department is now seeking a cooperative partner to allow this project to enter into the market. The Chinese Science and Technology Department has given great help to this project. The program of CBD International Hospital, carried by Beijing office of the Foundation, is going along smoothly. We have offered the concerned materials about the American hospitals to the group. And the group has selected the hospital they are interested in. The cooperation is going even further.
On 19th June, the alternate member of the Central Government, Deputy Secretary of Liaoning province committee of the CPC, Secretary of the Shenyang municipal committee, Mr. Zhang Xingxiang met with Mr. Larry Lee, President of USCF. During the meeting, Secretary Zhang introduced to Mr. Lee the prevention and treatment measure of SARS in Shengyang, as well as the promising economic tendency in the first half year. This included the strengthening of the city’s environment construction, road reconstruction in large area, tree-planting and improvement in water supply, etc. Secretary Zhang specifically praised USCF’s contribution to promoting the exchange between American cities and those in Shenyang, as well as the exchange of the enterprises between the two countries. Furthermore, he fully appreciated the achievement gained by USCF in Shenyang in the past, and expressed that he will keep up the energetic support to USCF’s work. Mr. Larry Lee, President of USCF, said that Shenyang in recent years, has made great and rapid changes in city construction, always bringing fresh winds to the outside world, and has given a strong impression to those foreigners who came to Shengyang. USCF has made great contributions to Liao / Shen areas, including the seminar for large-scale enterprises oversea initial public offering, the forum for personnel in all circles between America and China, the large-scale art performance of American art group, as well as helping the enterprises in China/Shenyang entry into the American market, etc. And USCF will continue to give our effort on improving the cooperative relationship between American cities, enterprises and those in Shenyang. Secretary Zhang and other leaders of the city committee, held a banquet to entertain President Larry Lee and his fellow members. Mr. Gu Chunming, Standing Committee of Shenyang city committee, CPC, Secretary-general of the city committee, and Mr. Zhao Changyi, Vice Mayor of Shenyang city attended the meeting and the banquet. Mr. Hans Shi, Business Representative of USCF, Ms. Julia Zhu, Supervisor of International Art and Culture Exchange of USCF and Mr. Warren Su, Supervisor of Investment consultancy Department of USCF & the chief Representative of USCF Shenyang Office were also present at the meeting, as well as the banquet. Local TV stations and newspapers reported this meeting in their headlines.
On June 20, Mr. Larry Lee, President of USCF flew to Shanghai for a four-day visit. During his visit to Shanghai, President Larry Lee met with Mr. Xue, Vice Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Government and Mr. Cheng, President of Art Center, discussing the preparation of Shanghai International Art Festival; organized by Shanghai Government and USCF. During SARS crisis this summer, many programs in Shanghai had to be postponed. With SARS epidemic dying out, Shanghai Municipal Government decided to invest considerable funds and enthusiasm in the preparation of this Art Festival and related activities for this autumn; making every effort to organize a world-class international Art Festival. USCF was invited by Shanghai Municipal Government to organize and arrange the well-known American Symphony Orchestra, Dancing Groups, Country Music Band and well-known painter to perform on Shanghai International Art Festival. During his visit in Shanghai, President Larry Lee also met with presidents of local well-known universities, further exchanging views on the International University Program.
On June 29, Mr. Fang Xiangdong, Director of Shenyang Foreign Affairs Office, representing Mr. Chen Zhenggao, Mayor of Shenyang City, met with President Larry Lee. They discussed the details of the preparation of Mayor Chen’s visit to the US. USCF will be responsible for the coordination and arrangement of the meeting between American government officials, entrepreneurs, celebrities and Mayor Chen delegation group.
After six months of preparation, the USCF's tenth anniversary book named“ Friendship Lives Forever Like Flowing Water From Lofty Mountains” recording its splendid 10-year development, has been published. This book contains 76 pages. The works on the front and back cover are both made by Mr. Song Yugui, Art Advisor of USCF, well-known master of Chinese painting. This big book contains 139 historical pictures, recording many important events since its inception, inscriptions contributed by members of the board of directors, senior advisors, high-ranking officials in China and old friends and staff of USCF, amounting to 42 persons, on the 10th anniversary of USCF. This book also has the columns of the Exchange Activities between the US and China organized by USCF and the historical words from the old friends of USCF.
Many domestic and foreign enterprises made their congratulations to USCF and make their corporate publicity on this book, including Air China, Monterey Institute of International Studies, Computer Associates International, Inc., Tianshi Group, Fordham University, Wilson Law Firm, Liaoning Rongchang Group, as well as a host of others.
