Dear members and friends:
The busy season of summer and autumn passed away quickly, let's celebrate together in this harvest time.
1. The culture delegation composed of different municipal president of the Art and Culture Association from Liaoning Province attend the Conference of Exchange and Cooperation on Culture between America and China in the New Century in U.S.A.. Under the leading of Mr. Yu Xianchao, who is the President of Liaoning Artist Association, the delegation composed of 7 people visited the United States. They visited New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, Los Angeles, and met American writers, artists, and university professors.
2. All the members of this delegation were received kindly by the Mr. Howard H.S. Zhao, who is a famous journalist and senior advisor of USCF, they visited his home and talked freely. All the members felt moved by his warm and kindness. They also visited Yale University, MIT and Harvard University, and had discussions and exchanges with the chiefs and researchers of Eastern Asia Institute and enjoyed a splendid American Ballet, which they had longed to see. They all had a great trip in America. This Art and Culture delegation's successful trip to America laid a solid foundation for a long-term exchange between the USCF and the Art and Culture Association. For example, they plan to send a ballet delegation next year from Liaoning to USA.
3. Mr. Larry L. Lee, the executive director of USCF attended Liaoning (Dalian) Undertaking Activity Week-- Science and Technology Forum co-organized by the Liaoning Provincial Government, Science and Technology Department of China and Overseas Office of Sate Council from June 29 to July 1 in Dalian. USCF established many new contracts in Science & Technology Circle.
4. All staff and advisors of Shenyang office of our Foundation assembled in the Laobian Dumpling Restaurant in the evening of August 24. Mr. Larry L. Lee, the executive director of USCF expressed sincere appreciation to the advisors and emphasized that the Shenyang office's work can not be developed quickly without their help, support and care. The basis of our success is to forge profound friendship widely in different areas. The advisors attended the banquet were Ms. Song Lijun, director of northeast office of China Daily; Mr. Yang Fulin, the chief of Secretariat of Shenyang Municipal Government General Office; Mr. Lu Xiaochen, the director of News Agency of Liaoning Radio Broadcasting Station; Mr. Duan Fujun, chief of Visa Office of Shenyang Municipal Foreign Affairs Office; Mr. Pan Zhaohe, the Headmaster of Shenyang Conservatory and Mr. Shi Runzhi, director of Research Institute of Laobian Diet Culture. Mr. Jia Shoajun, the chief representative of Shenyang Office reported the achievements, key plans and emphasis activities hereafter while everyone tasted the different kinds of dumpling of Laobian. This banquet was held in a cheerful atmosphere.
5. USCF held a "Sino-US Friendship Activities Week" from September 1st to September 10th. Many members of our foundation from America had been invited to China to attend this meaningful event. The members were Mr. Kirk McAfee, the President of Cubic Inc., Mr. Robert McAfee, the Senior Advisor of the World Bank, Mr. Jesse Watkins, the Managing Director of Jamison Insurance Co., Dr. Irv Beiman, the Chairman of E Gate Ltd., Ms. Sun Yongling, the President of E Gate Ltd., Mr. Wu Genglian, the Director of Yu Da Corp., and Dr. Ding Wenjing, the President of E-Tech Group. It was a coincidence that during that time period, it was the 2300-year anniversary of Shenyang City, so our members attended a series of related activities.
6. In the evening September 2nd, as a sole "International Co-Sponser", USCF contributed ten Austria Crystal Necklaces - Century Star at International Super Model Competition, China Final. All our guests at "American Activity Week" attended this exiting activity. Mr. Larry Lee, Mr. Jesse Watkins, Mr. Kirk McAfee, accompanied with Mr. Angus Simons, the Consul General of US to Shenyang, presented our awards - ten beautiful necklaces to the top-ten super models. They also met Mr. & Mrs. Ford from the Ford Model Agency of New York. Dr. Henry Kissinger wrote a special letter to this event through USCF, and the letter was read by Ms. Ni Ping-the most popular moderator of CCTV, who was also a specially invited moderator for this event from Beijing. This letter was read in both English and Chinese, and gained long applause from over nine thousand members of the audience.
7. Mr. Xu Wencai, the Party Secretary of Shenyang, set up a formal meeting and banquet for the USCF Delegation on September 3rd at Marriott Dynasty Hotel. Mr. Xu, the number one person in the large city, which has a population of over seven million, and gave high praise to USCF's contribution to Sino-US relations and Shenyang City. All of the local TV stations and newspapers reported this event.
8. A major activity of this Sino-US Friendship Week was the "Sino-US Senior Executives' Gathering", which was held at International Trade Hotel on September 4th. Senior representatives from more than one hundred companies and sixty State-Owned Corporations attended this event. These companies including Shenyang Dawn Garment Group, Shenyang Fengxiang Group, and etc. One the gathering, Mr. Sun Fengxiang, the Director of Shenyang Fengxiang Group, had discussions with Mr. Irv Beiman, the Chairman of the Asia East Gate Consulting Ltd., on eight different projects. After this event, the cooperation from both China and USA had been increased by a huge step. Moreover, Mr. Angus Simons, the Consul General of USA to Shenyang, held a personal party at his home for the celebration of "Sino-US Friendship Activities Week" in the evening of the same day. The entire staff of the USCF Shenyang Office, members of USCF from America, and many famous entrepreneurs, including Ms. Wang Hongming, the Chairwoman of the Shenyang Dawn Garment Group, the largest garment manufacturer and exporter in the Northeast of China, attended this party.
9. On September 8th, Mr. Robert McAfee and Kirk McAfee accompanied by Mr. Larry Lee and the staff in Shenyang Office visited Hai Cheng City. There, they had a meeting with Mr. Zhang Dianchun, the Mayor of Hai Cheng City, Mr. Bai Changquan, the Vice-Mayor of Hai Cheng City, and other government officials. The guests offered many constructive suggestions for the city's development, and set up a solid basis of cooperation with each other for the future.
10. Larry Lee visited Dalian Railroad University at the end of last September. He met with Mr. Yang, the President of the Railroad University. Both of them had a wonderful conversation and reached an agreement on establishing an International Training Center in Dalian by USCF and Dalian Railroad University.
11. Our members Dr. Howard H.S. Zhao, the famous journalist and retired Yale University professor, and Mr. Shanquan Li, the Vice President and Fund Manager of Opphenheimer Funds, were invited as special guests to attend the "World Chinese Forum", which was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province in China, from September 15th. to 18th.
12. Our Senior Finance Advisor Mr. Shanquan Li, the Vice President and Fund Manager of Oppenheimer Funds, Inc., gave a lecture, which was arranged by USCF, at the Southwest Securities Ltd. in Beijing on the September 26th. Many people attended this lecture, including Mr. Lin Yuxiang, the General Manager of the Fund Department of the Southwest Securities Ltd., Dr. Ding Kaisheng, the Vice Manager of the Fund Dept. of the Southeast Securities Ltd., and the executive officials from another Department of this institute. The major topic of this lecture was the system of operating the foreign funds. This three-hour lecture was very successful and was received high praise by all attendees.
13. In order to celebrate China's National Day, Mr. Larry L. Lee, our Executive Director, held a formal banquet at the Su-Zhe Restaurant in Beijing International Trade Center in the evening on September 26th. Members of USCF, including Mr. Qin Huashun, the former Chinese Ambassador to United Nations, Mr. Zhang Yijun, the former Chinese Ambassador to Canada, Mr. Zhao Haoshen, Senior Journalist and retired professor from Yale University, Mr. Shanquan Li, the Vice President and Fund Manager of the Oppenheimer Funds, Ltd., and Mr. Li Xiaoming, the Managing Partner of King & Wood Law Firm, attended this banquet. On the party, Larry reported to the members on the projects and activities, which had gone on recently at USCF, and the events that would be on going in the next half year. All the attendees enjoyed the party very much. They made many good suggestions for USCF. Ms. Judy Yiu, the Chief Representative of USCF's Beijing Office, Ms. Jiali Zhu, the Supervisor of Cultural Exchange Division of USCF, and Ms. Grace Zhen, the Assistant of USCF's Beijing Office, also attended this event.
14. A forum named "International Forum of BIMBA Senior Executive Managers", which was held by the US-China Foundation and Beijing University at Beijing University on September 27th. The leader of the MBA Dept. gave a warm welcome to Mr. Nick Clements, Advisory Board Member of USCF and the President of the Cubic Inc.. Larry L. Lee, the Executive Director of USCF, made a short presentation to the gathering. Mr. Nick Clements offered a two-hour speech on the topic of Venture Capital Investment. About two hundred people attended this forum. As soon as Mr. Clements had finished his speech, the audience burst into thunderous applause. After the speech, the students of the MBA Department asked for Mr. Clements' autograph and requested many pictures taking with him. The attendees showed their thankfulness to USCF for arranging the impressive speech.
