Collecting of the Best Contemporary Calligraphy and Paintings has officially started


The news conference to promote The Collection of The Best Contemporary Calligraphy and Paintings-China at Its Best Period (2012), conceived by Beijing Sino-US Cultural Development Company Ltd, initiated by Chinese Artists Village, China Film Foundation, The People’s Literature Press and US-China Foundation, sponsored by Beijing Sino-US Cultural Development Company Ltd, -the opening ceremony for collecting the calligraphy and paintings- was impressively held at Grand Hyatt Hotel Beijing at 3.00 pm, Friday, July 22, 2011.

The Chinese calligraphy and paintings can be viewed as Chinese national art. With over five thousands years of development, the Chinese calligraphy and paintings has become the important symbol of Chinese civilization. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the contemporary Chinese showed increasing enthusiasm in inheriting and developing Chinese calligraphy and paintings and many top Chinese painters and calligraphers created their distinctive, pioneering and exceptional calligraphy and paintings.

At the beginning of the 21st century, United Nations hosted the summit conference attended by presidents and government officials from 198 countries and issued The Millennium Declaration after the conference. In this declaration, the world leaders set a measurable goal and indicators to fight against poverty, famine, diseases, illiteracy, deterioration in ecology, cultural invasion, and discrimination against women. The goals and indicators were the top priorities of the agenda of the global development and were called the development goal for Millennium. Over the past decade, China has made great efforts and contribution to the Millennium development goal set by UN and fulfilled 67% of its overall target. To mark the 10th anniversary of the issuing of the UN Millennium development goal and enhance the Chinese culture focusing on harmony, the organizing committee of The Collection decided to publish the collection of excellent Chinese calligraphy and paintings before 2012, the Year of Dragon. This collection will definitely be the best present offered by Chinese people to the UN Millennium development goal tour in China .

The organizing committee would publish this collection to show, in an original way, the interpretation of Chinese people on Chinese traditional culture; open a window for outside world on the contemporary Chinese spiritual and cultural aspects in order to depict the amazing profiles of Chinese people in the 21st century.

The aim of this valuable collection is to disseminate Chinese traditional culture, promote Chinese calligraphy and paintings, develop Chinese contemporary art, bridge the world and bridge the hearts of people worldwide. The partial works from this collection can be made into a table calendar to mark the Year of Dragon. The authoritative advisory commission and editing committee of this collection would collect 365 pieces of works of art from 365 well-known calligraphers, painters and celebrities in 34 provinces or autonomous regions in China including Taiwan and overseas Chinese-introduce an artist and his or her representative work on each of the calendar- make the calendar a practical and aesthetic collection of calligraphy and paintings which has collection value. The publisher and editors would do their best efforts to ensure its exquisite, up-scale quality, have profound culture background in design; contain Chinese traditional culture essence in content, indicating Chinese artistic spirit, having the highest value in its Chinese contemporary calligraphy and paintings. This collection is scheduled to be officially published by the well-known press, the People’s Literature Press.

Chinese famous calligrapher Mr. Ouyang Zhongshi made his inscription and preface for this collection; well-known calligrapher General Shao Huaze also wrote his inscription for this collection. Famous painter Song Yugui would add his newly-painted work-66-meter long The Mountain Village in the spring (Premier Wun Jiabao would write his inscription in this painting) – to this collection and be used as the front cover of this collection and he would write the preface for this collection.

This collection would invite senior Chinese calligraphers and painters as the artistic advisors of collecting this collection of works of art, they include:

Famous painter, Song Yugui, advisor of the State Council, president of Mingge Central Academy of Art, senior advisor of US-China Foundation 
General Shao Huaze, chairman of China National Journalists Association, Chief Editor of the People’s Daily, well-known calligrapher 
Feng Yuan, vice chairman of China Literature Association, vice chairman of Chinese Artists Association

After this news conference, we would officially start collecting calligraphy and paintings and its deadline is: September 30 2011, then we would choose and judge these works. The selected 365 pieces of works of art would be announced officially before the end of October 2011, the representative winning works would be displayed in the headquarters in NYC in 2012. After that, they would be displayed on a tour in the US cities such as Washington, Chicago, SF, LA; and would also be displayed on a tour in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Chongqing, or would probably be displayed on a global tour.

The organizer would do its best efforts to make this collection a great success and make great contribution to the World Cultural Heritage and hope to effectively promote the development of Chinese calligraphy and paintings through this collecting and judging.
