Houston, TX—Former Houston City Councilman Gordon Quan this week won the Democratic nomination for Harris County Judge. Quan sailed to victory with 81.2 percent of the vote setting up a race between himself and the incumbent Republican County Judge for this November’s general election. Harris County, which includes almost all of the city of Houston, is the nation’s third largest county and is home to a population larger than 24 states.

“I’m humbled and grateful to have the support of so many throughout Harris County,” Quan said. “Last night was a great victory, but this campaign has only just begun. Over the next several months, I will be outlining my ideas for creating more jobs here locally, reforming our criminal justice system, and bringing more transparency and accountability to county government.”

Gordon Quan served as a Houston City Councilman for six years. He also served as Mayor Pro Tem during which time he reformed the office and cut its budget by 20 percent. Quan has spent 30 years assisting businesses and entrepreneurs in making Harris County home. Currently, he is working on developing Regional Investment Centers to attract foreign investment to this County – New York and Chicago have already done this and Quan believes we need to follow suit. Gordon Quan says he will work to expand the use of these regional centers to attract foreign investors.

Quan also says he will help Harris County’s criminal justice system focus on fairness, accountability, efficiency and safety. He wants to tackle the chronic overcrowding problems at Harris County’s jails.

“This is going to be a long, hard fought campaign,” Quan said. “But I am ready. I will be working to bring people together across the political spectrum who want to see less of the politics as usual and more progress when it comes to our economy, our justice system, our social services and our fiscal stability.
