I spoke to John Woodcock this afternoon and he told me of his attendance at the breakfast meeting. It sounds like you had a very interesting group on Saturday morning.

I really appreciate your understanding of John's scheduling problems. I know how difficult it is to plan these large meeting and deal with the unexpected. I am sorry that he could not attend the dinner as we had hoped but you were most gracious to make time on the morning schedule.

Thank you for honoring Leonard's work to further the relationships and understanding between our two countries. You were very kind to include him among the honorees. It is hard to believe that 30 years have passed since those eventful days with Deng Xiaoping.

Please share my thank you's with your colleagues and staff who helped make the week-end so successful.

Warm regards,

Sharon L. Woodcock
