At noon of 22nd December, 2009, USCF President Larry Lee and standing vice Director of CPC Hainan Provincial Propaganda Department Zhang Songlin held a comprehensive discussion on the preparation work of the New Year Concert at its final stage over lunch. Director Zhang highly praised the originality of this concert and wished this concert a great success.

On the afternoon of 23rd December, at the invitation of vice mayor of Sanya City Li Boqing , USCF President Lee and his special assistant Li Lihui went to Sanya to have a discussion with vice mayor Li on the details of the concert(to be held in Sanya).

At noon of 28th December, USCF President Larry Lee invited professor Xu Guoding

of Hainan University to lunch at a restaurant named Sanjiantang on Jinlong Road . They had a talk and exchanged their opinions on the concert in a pleasant atmosphere. At last, professor Xu showed much interest in this concert and said he would do his best to assist with this concert. USCF President’s special assistant Li Lihui, project manger Zhang Pingping, administrative assistant Liang Shuang and PR assistant Chen Guoyang were present during this luncheon.

At noon of 29th December, USCF President’s special assistant Zhang Jiang flew to Hainan from Beijing . President Lee reviewed the details of the concert to ensure everything was going smoothly.

On the afternoon of the same day, USCF President Lee and his special assistant Zhang Jiang were invited by Hainan Provincial Propaganda Department to discuss the details of the concert there.

On the 30th December, soprano Julia Zhu, American violinist Guo Qing, American tenor Justin Vickers, Italian conductor Joe Lucca, European pianist and vocalist Maria arrived in Beijing respectively.

On the morning of 31st December, at the invitation of CPC Danzhou municipal Party Commission and Danzhou People's Government, USCF President Lee and his assistant Zhang Jiang went to Danzhou to hold a detailed discussion on this concert with local leaders. President Lee and Zhang Jiang returned to Haikou after this meeting.

On the afternoon of the same day, President of China Art Group of Chinese Ministry of Culture Zhangyu and his attendant arrived in Haikou .

On the evening of the same day, standing member of Hainan CPC and director of Hainan Provincial Propaganda Department Zhou Wenzhang, invited President Zhangyu, USCF President Lee and Chinese and foreign artists to a dinner party. And Vice Minister of CPC Hainan Provincial Propaganda Department was also present at the party.

Also on the evening of the same day, American Mezzo-Soprano Ms. Liang Ning and all members of Symphony Orchestra of the China Opera and Ballet Group arrived in Haikou .

On the afternoon of January 1, 2009, to make this concert a great success, all Chinese and foreign singers of this concert and all members of Symphony Orchestra of the China Opera and Ballet Group did a rehearsal in the Great Hall of the People of Haikou.

At 8.00 pm, on New Year’s Day, after more than half a year’s elaborate designing and preparation, 2009 Hainan International Travel Island New Year Concert, which was co-hosted by China Culture Group, CPC Hainan Provincial Propaganda Department, Tourism Administration of Hainan Province, the United States and China Foundation, raised curtain at the Great Hall of the People of Haikou.

Leaders who attended this concert including standing member of Hainan CPC and Director of Hainan Provincial Propaganda Department, Zhou Wenzhang, President of China Culture Group of Ministry of Culture Zhangyu, USCF President Larry Lee, Vice Director of CPC Hainan Provincial Propaganda Department Zhang Songlin and leaders of all walks in society.

The audience’s enthusiasm and appreciation for this international concert indicated Hainan the Hainan people’s passion for the elegant art.

The first song was The Figaro’s Marriage, which immediately won loud applause from audience. The concert reached a climax when a song ‘ Wanquan River ’, conducted by Liu Fengde, was performed, the audience couldn’t help singing this song together with the performers, which was never seen here before.

After the performance, Director Zhou Wenzhang, President Zhangyu, USCF President Larry Lee, Vice Director Zhang Songlin and other leaders stepped onto the stage and had a group photo taken with the performers. Hainan TV Station and Entertainment Broadcasting Station filmed the concert.

From late December 2008 till January 2, 2009, Hainan Daily, Southern Metropolis Daily, Haikou Evening Newspaper, Hainan Special Zone News, China News Service Hainan Branch, Nanhai net and Tengxunnet.com covered this concert. Lots of Hainan viewers called in to book this concert tickets since the hot line for tickets was set up.

On January 2, 2009, all performers and the Symphony Orchestra headed for Danzhou to give their second concert there.

At 8.00 pm on the evening of January 3, 2009, at a theatre facing Danzhou Government Building , 2009 Hainan International Travel Island Danzhou New Year Concert raised curtain in the audience’s warmest applause and there was no vacant seat in the theater. Danzhou municipal governmental officials and USCF President Lee attended this concert. The pleasant atmosphere was throughout the concert. After the performance, Danzhou municipal governmental officials, President Lee had a group photo with all the performers. This concert achieved a great success. 2009 Hainan International Travel Island New Year Concert concluded successfully. This concert as a historic event in the musical history in Hainan would be remembered forever by Hainan people.

On January 4, 2009, the performers and the Symphony Orchestra left Haikou respectively. They shared their happiness of the concert’s great success and were looking forward to performing together in the future.

On January 5, 2009, USCF President Lee was with American tenor Justin Vickers to travel for pleasure in Hainan .

President Lee finished his visit to Hainan from middle December till early January 2009, and on the evening January 10, 2009 following the successful hosting of 2009 Hainan International Travel Island New Year Concert returned to Beijing .
