Dear Larry,
Mary and I sincerely appreciate all of your kind and generous efforts createing better communication, cultural appreciation, and understanding between the leaders and citizens of The United States and The People's Republic of China. We were especially happy to be your honored guests at Julia's April 30 University of Houston Concert celebrating the 35th Anniversary of President Nixon's historic 1972 visit in China with the Chinese Leadership. As we told you , Julia's diverse program of traditional Chinese, European, and American Oratorio was supurb, and her diffeing tonal quality was amazing as she shifted between traditional Chinese, western European, and English dialects. Her costumes, smile, and bearing were beautiful. Her voice and manner, as usual, were most entertaining and lovely. She and her compatriot and teacher,the Internationally renown Mezzo-Soprano, Ning Liang, sang a wonderful duet, but Julia, your lovely wife, was "l'etoile", the evening star.
The post Concert presentation of congratulations, appreciation, and thanks from The United States Congress to you and The United States and China Foundation honoring our work for improved peace and co-operation between our two great countries was a surprise. It is a well deserved and special honor.
The dinner following the concert, and our business breakfast visit together Tuesday before we returned , both of which you hosted, were really helpful and enjoyable. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
I especially, personally, sincerely appreciate and thank you for your concerns about Mary's health; since our return we have already started the proper medical consultations so we can resolve her health issues. Give our very best wishes to Julia and to our mutual friends in Beijing and Shenyang at USCF,Neusoft,especially my good friend Chairman Zhao XinLang when you return next week.Later today I will be sending you a separate email for Dr.Liu at Neusoft which you will convey next week to Dr. Liu . I will copy to Kim Russell.
