------A Celebration for the 35th Anniversary of the Sino-US Shanghai Joint Communiqué and Former US President Nixon’s Visit to China
On the evening of 13 February 2007, Redwood -- A Sino-US Friendship Evening organized by USCF-- A Celebration for the 35th Anniversary of the Sino-US Shanghai Joint Communiqué and Former US President Nixon’s Visit to China, was successfully held at the Pearl Hall of Shanghai International Convention Center.
February in the early spring of 35 years ago, a redwood tree from the United States, with the mutual expectation from American and Chinese people, was replanted on the beautiful edge of Westlake. Having experienced thirty-five years' rain and shine, the redwood tree today has been much bigger and stronger and become a symbol of Sino-US friendship.
The year 2007 marks the 35th anniversary of former US President Richard Nixon's historic visit to China as well as that of the signing of the Sino-US Shanghai Joint Communiqué. To pay tribute to the historically significant moment, the United States and China Foundation (USCF), as a professional organization with promoting Sino-US friendship as its mission, hosted a Redwood US-China Musical Celebration. Specially attended and coordinated by US Consulate General in Shanghai, supported by Redwood Garment Co., LTD, and co-organized by the Organizing Committee of Houston International Festival, the event featured the song of Redwood Tree sung by Julia Zhu, soprano, and Art Director of USCF (her solo concert to be held in the music hall of the city of Houston on April 30, 2007).
The Honorable Consul General of US Consulate in Shanghai, Kenneth Jarrett attended the celebration and delivered a speech on US-China relationship in the 21st centaury. Qiu Shengyun, former Chinese Consul General in New York and Houston flied from Beijing to attend this important event.

For this event to become a reality, we are indebted to the kind support from HSBC, China Development Bank, Shanghai Taotu Animation Company, and Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. Professor at the Vocal Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music and well-known singer, Fang Qiong, and China’s First-class Artist and Renowned Erhu Player, Ma Xiaohui, performed at this meeting.
In the spirit of the event theme as an evening of friendship, art, and love, USCF will also host charity donation and auction during the event.
