New song entitled “Princess Wen Cheng ”

The story of Princess Wen Cheng’s entry into Tibet in Tang Dynasty is well known in China. But, until now there is no music written based on this story. The reason is that this story is historic, significant in politics and reality. It is difficult for lyrics-writer to describe this story. “Princess Wen Cheng ”sung by young singer, Ms. Julia Zhu, which is written by well-known lyrics-writer Zhang Ming He, deep in its meaning, clear in the theme. The writer showed Princess Wen Cheng’s virtue of valuing national interest above her personal happiness and caring for ordinary people through the events of Princess Wen Cheng’s entry into Tibet, being married into Tibetan Royal Family, getting on well with Tibetans. The relationship between Han people and Tibetan people was emphasized as the one between family members.

As a princess of great Tang Dynasty, Princess Wen Cheng waived her easy life for national interest and got married in the remote frontier.

“Sister Jia Sha” was kindly addressed by Tibetans as sister from Han Territory. The song begins with “Sister Jia Sha” in a beautiful tune, and ends with “Sister Jia Sha” echoing far away, fascinating deeply every audience.

Dr. Chang Pin, lyrics-writer of this song, is a postgraduate of Composing Department of China Conservatory. He understands well musical history and works home and abroad and is mostly interested in Chinese traditional musical works of every racial group. So, the song “ Princess Wen Cheng ” combines the Tibetan folk song’s style with the writer’s creativity. The melody of this song is elegant, dignified, which matches the character of Princess Wen Cheng. At the same time, the tune is catchy, easy to hum it. Especially, the repeated stanza--- “ Himalaya welcomes you; I used to pay more attention to national interest, but now realize the invaluableness of love; Himalaya worries about you; your hair turns gray; mountains nestle rivers” were very catchy, expressive.

Chen Tong, a talented composer, he combines the deep tune of Tibet tuba with the background of Tibet Buddhists praying in the prelude. This combination enhances the fascination and mood of this song.

Ms. Julia Zhu interpreted thoroughly this song through her sweet, beautiful voice and her attractive personality.

The purpose of this contest is not only to entertain the viewers with new songs and new faces, but also to contribute new works to the musical community. The song “Princess Wen Cheng” brought new trend into the Chinese musical community through its significance in politics, culture and history and its creativity in melody, accompaniment. We expect that Ms Julia Zhu will be more popular among the viewers through her beautiful song of “ Princess Wen Cheng” and increasingly contribute more attractive, distinct, new songs to the temporary musical community.
