President Lee visited the widow of Mr. Chai before the spring festival eve
On Jan, 26th, the traditional lunar year in China, Larry Lee, the president of USCF, Pei Yan, the office director, and Xie Lingfei, the colleague of USCF, took many fresh fruit and festival New Year cake with red wrap and drove to visit aunt Li who is over 80 years old, and is the wife of ambassador Chai Zemin, the general counsel of USCF, the first Chinese ambassador stationed in America.
Jan, 1st, 1979, a memorable day. The two large countries in the world-China and America ended the state of hostility for over 30years and established form diplomatic relationship. During the days of setting embassies and exchanging ambassadors each other, there was one name focused by all the world, it was Chai Zemin who was the first Chinese ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary stationed in America and an outstanding diplomat. As the first ambassador, his duty was heavy. During that time, although the relationship between China and America came to a new page, Mr. Chai had to solve all kinds of troublesome contradiction and problems because China and America were both large countries, there were different interests, social systems and ideologies between them. Depended on the years of diplomat experiences, he sticked to principles and made some flexibilities in his work to make a good basis for long-term relationship between two countries. At about two to two a.m., June,7th,2010, Mr. Chai passed away when he was 93 years old. According to the wish of his families, the remains farewell was held on the morning of June, 13th. Chairman Hu Jintao, President Wen Jiabo both sent wreaths, Dai Bingguo, state councillor, Yang Jiechi, foreign minister, and Li Daoyu, the president of China international public relation association, were all present. President Larry Lee personally attended this farewell.
during the years from 1995 to 2010, Larry and Mr. Chai had precious friendship for about 15 years. As the general counsel and honorary president of USCF, Mr. Chai's good qualities made every colleagues and leaders of USCF remember forever. In his work, he never bothered about his benefit, and attended every activities invited him, he set a good example for every colleagues of USCF.
In the mid-autumn day of 1999, during the mid-autumn reception in China grand hotel, Mr. Chai said the relationship between China and America just liked the moon in the sky, although it has cloud or round flaw, the friendship between our two countries is endless, the good relationship of two peoples would last forever.
On April 25th, 2000, "China-US Form" was held firstly in Hilton Hotel of Manhattan in New York, which was focused on "Enter into the 21st century and compose the new page of friendly cooperation between China and America" and was discussed from many fields of our two countries. The Chinese delegation leaded by Mr. Chai flew to New York for this form. Accompanied by his wife who was 84 years old that year, Mr. Chai flew over the Pacific and delivered an important speech, which gave us a good hope for the future friendship of our two countries and received warm claps. The other side, doctor Kissinger, China's old friend and the former secretary of state, Mr. Vance, the former secretary os state when the relationship was established between China and America, Mr. Shang Mujie, the former ambassador stationed in China, Mr. He Liqiang, the former president of nationwide relation association, Mr. Scalberg, the president of business college of Fu Jen University, the partners of Vance law office, and other leaders of American political, diplomatic, industrial and commercial, and educational circles all attended this form. Because of Mr. Chai's great contribution, this form was very successful and written in the history of China and America.
On April 19th, 2004, Mr. Chai attended the form for Shanghai international environmental protection in Shanghai Jinjiang Hotel, and met American former president Bush and other international leaders.
During the New Year's day in 2005, Mr. Chai attended our festival music reception in Great Hall of the People, he drank a toast and celebrated the new year with ambassador Qiu Shengyun, Sun Fuling, the vice-chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and He Zhenliang, the former vice-chairman of IOC.
After that, MR. Chai attended all kinds of activities and was not afraid of hard work, he flew between Beijing, Shenyang, Shanghai and Dalian.
This whole visit took nearly one hour, aunt Li was also hale and hearty, although she was about 80 years old. Larry and her reviewed the whole life of Mr. Chai which he was devoted himself and made much contributions to the relationship between China and America. They recalled the friend between Mr. Chai and USCF, the good time they both had and their good friends. Larry asked about the family conditions and expressed USCF was the family members for aunt Li, we would give great help to aunt Li if she needed. Aunt Li also asked about the activities planed by USCF warmly. At last, Larry, aunt Li and our colleagues took photos, she also encouraged us to make more contributions to the relationship between China and America and keep on doing our little bit to help the exchange undertaking which Mr. Chai was devoted to.
